A calmer sink corner: Joseph Joseph Caddy

The bottle, brush, cloth and sponge all need somewhere to go. A small sink organiser is useful when it gives each one a home without crowding the worktop.

Give the ordinary supplies a place

Joseph Joseph’s Caddy has a main area for a washing-up liquid bottle and brush, a rail for a damp cloth and a plate for a sponge. It also has a reservoir beneath to collect drained water.

The attraction is a simple reset: wash up, return the supplies and leave the surrounding surface clear. Start by counting the things you actually need there. The organiser should serve that small collection, not encourage a second bottle and three extra brushes.

Measure the corner, then check the bottle

The maker lists this Caddy at 21cm wide, 11.5cm deep and 13.5cm high. Put a paper outline in the intended spot and check that the tap, sink edge and nearby appliances still have room to work.

Your bottle shape matters too. A tall pump bottle needs space above it and a stable place to sit. Make sure you can lift out the brush without catching the tap or reaching across something hot. The useful footprint includes the act of using the supplies.

Collected water still needs emptying

A reservoir can keep drips together, but the water has not disappeared. Empty and clean the caddy regularly, and follow the maker’s care instructions for the selected version. Joseph Joseph describes a design that dismantles for cleaning.

That is a useful feature only if it is easy enough to become part of your routine. Do not mistake a neat-looking sink corner for automatic hygiene. Let cloths and sponges dry appropriately and replace them when needed.

Choose the smallest arrangement that works

Caddy is a better match for a bottle, brush and cloth collection than for a kitchen that only needs one sponge holder. If your worktop is very narrow, a smaller solution or a different storage position may be better.

Keep the space around it wipeable. If the organiser has to be lifted over a maze of bottles every time you clean, simplify the contents. The best reason to buy this is an easier end to the washing-up, with the useful things ready for next time.
