Hario V60 Starter Set 02: make a little room for better mornings

A dripper, a server and the pleasure of making one thing at a time. Pour-over appeals when you want a coffee ritual without giving the counter over to a machine.

A small beginning, not an entire coffee station

Hario’s V60 Starter Set 02 includes a size 02 plastic dripper, a matching server and 40 paper filters. That puts the brewing pieces together in one purchase, with no need to choose a separate server just to get started.

It does not cover every part of making coffee. You still need coffee ground for the method, hot water and a safe place to brew. If you buy beans, you need a way to grind them; if you buy suitable ground coffee, a grinder does not have to be the first addition. Start with the actual routine rather than a photograph of somebody else’s counter.

Would you enjoy being part of the brewing?

Pour-over is a hands-on choice. You pour the water, pay attention and adjust the next cup to what you enjoyed. That can make the morning feel like a small pause instead of another switch to flick. It can also feel like an extra job when everyone is trying to leave the house.

Think about an ordinary weekday, not just a quiet Sunday. If you would enjoy a few minutes at the counter, the process has a place. If you need several coffees ready with as little involvement as possible, choose a method that matches that priority.

Start with fewer variables

For your first attempts, follow Hario’s brewing guidance, use the matching filter size, and keep notes on the coffee amount and water you use. Change one thing at a time. That gives you a useful way to learn what you prefer without buying more equipment after every unfamiliar cup.

A scale or pouring kettle may become useful, but neither should be an automatic addition to the basket. First decide what you cannot do with the tools you already own. The point of a starter set is having somewhere sensible to begin, not discovering a new list of compulsory accessories.

Count what comes after the first box

Paper filters are an ongoing purchase. Check that replacements are the correct size and format, and include them when you compare this with another method. Hario lists the server at 700ml capacity; capacity is not a promise of a particular number of your favourite mugs. Think about your actual serving size.

Confirm the exact colour and set contents on the offer—V60 drippers and kits come in several versions. This review is for the plastic-dripper Starter Set 02, not the Switch immersion brewer or a ceramic-only dripper. Use the equipment on a stable surface and handle the hot water and glass carefully. A compact coffee corner should feel inviting, not crowded.
