A compact keyboard makes sense when your mouse, notebook and coffee are all competing for the same corner of the desk.

The space you get back should have a job

A small keyboard is appealing for a simple reason: it leaves room for something else. Perhaps that is a mouse closer to your typing hand, a notebook you can actually open, or a clear patch of table when work is finished. The K380s brings that idea to a slim, rounded-key layout without a separate number pad.

Before changing anything, put your current keyboard where you naturally type. Move the mouse to a comfortable spot and open your usual notebook. If something ends up hanging off the edge, a compact layout has a real problem to solve. If everything already fits, buy for the layout and device switching rather than expecting a desk transformation.

Three devices, one place to type

Logitech’s Easy-Switch buttons let you move between three paired devices. That is useful if you write on a laptop, answer longer messages on a tablet, and would rather keep one keyboard on the desk. It switches the keyboard connection; it does not turn separate screens into one shared workspace.

Bluetooth is the straightforward starting point. Logitech also lists Logi Bolt support, but the standalone keyboard does not include the receiver; the Pebble 2 Combo is a different package. Check your computer’s Bluetooth support and any workplace restrictions before counting on either route. Windows, macOS, iPadOS, iOS and Android appear in Logitech’s supported platform list; check the current minimum versions for your devices.

When the smaller layout is the wrong trade

Think about what your fingers do all day. Writing emails and moving between documents is a different job from entering columns of figures. If you use a number pad constantly, removing it can exchange one annoyance for another. Likewise, a keyboard that travels nicely still needs a layout you recognise—check the exact US layout on the offer, not just the colour.

There is no need to replace a keyboard you already love simply because the rest of the desk looks tidy in a photograph. Start with the mouse space and the tasks you repeat. Those two details will tell you more than a matching set of accessories.

A simple plan for a smaller desk

Try three zones: a screen behind, typing in front, and an open mouse area beside it. Keep a notebook off to the side until you need it rather than squeezing it between the keyboard and screen. For a raised laptop, leave room for both external controls before choosing a stand.

The K380s is a sensible candidate when that little change makes the whole setup easier to live with. For a permanent workstation built around frequent number entry, keep the bigger keyboard and make space elsewhere.
